Adding a Remote Live Interview

Livestream Studio customers can add a live webcam source from another location into their Studio production. This is called Live Interview

Interview guest(s) will need an Internet connection, Google Chrome, a webcam, and a microphone connected to their computer.

It is strongly recommended that audio is provided to any local hosts or interviewer directly via the headphone out jack on your Studio unit using headphones, IFB's, etc. Otherwise, there will be a distinct echo in your stream during the interaction. 

Live Interview currently only works on desktop Chrome; there is currently no support for Live Interview via mobile devices.

Navigate to the Inputs tab. Select Add Input > Live Interview > Live Interview.

While you can send an invite to as many people as you like, only one Interview can occur in Livestream Studio at a time.

The Live Interview will appear at the bottom of the inputs list. Select the corresponding gearwheel on the right side to configure it.

In the General settings, there are two tabs: Invite and Chat. The Invite menu is open by default.


You will be provided two unique URLs: Guest invite and Moderator invite. Press the Copy button to copy the corresponding URL to your clipboard and provide the URL to your guest(s) via email or other means).

New URLs generate each time a Live Interview is added. If you wish to provide a URL in advance, do not remove your Live Interview from the Inputs list.

When someone opens on the provided Guest Interview URL in Google Chrome, they will be prompted to allow the camera and microphone to be accessed (This is required in order for the interview to work). They can then type in their name, then click Join Interview.

The optional Moderator Invite URL can be given to a third person who can select between each guest camera to show in Studio via their Chrome browser. The moderator’s camera and microphone will not be used but they will be able to see and hear all connected guests. The moderator is also connected to the chat to help communicate with all interview guests and the producer.

When a guest has joined the Interview, they will see their camera feed, a Connected notification, and have access to the internal chat with you (the Producer), the Moderator, and all connected guests.

In Livestream Studio you can see this chat as well by selecting the Chat tab.

You can bring in the guest's camera by clicking the Select guest drop-down and clicking their name. You can have as many guests as you wish in that list, but you can only select one guest at a time.

After clicking a name, the guest's camera will appear in the input source, which you can switch to whenever you are ready.


The guest's view will change to seeing their camera in the lower left corner and overlay a larger view of what is currently in Program. They will also hear Program audio and a Preview notification in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

When the guest's camera is switched into Program, they will see a red On Air notification in the upper right-hand corner.


By default, the guest will hear Program audio but not hear their own audio, even when they are in Program.

Some other controls the Guest will have include:

  • Leave Interview: They can exit the interview.
  • Hold: Will pause the stream from sending to Studio. They can then click Resume to start sending their feed to Studio again.
  • Mute: Will Mute their microphone
  • Stop Video: Will stop sending their video (but will still send audio)
  • Settings: Allows users to select a different webcam, audio source, and show or hide the Program feed from Studio.
